SEATTLE,
June 4, 2007 The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] surprised Seattles Maple
Elementary School students and staff with the fifth annual John
D. Warner Award for Excellence in Education Wednesday during a spirited
school assembly. Here (from left to right), Bob Watt, vice president,
State & Local Government Relations & Global Corporate Citizenship,
The Boeing Company; Maple Elementary Principal Pat Hunter and retired
Boeing Chief Administrative Officer John D. Warner proudly display
the $25,000 award check.
The unrestricted grant rewards Puget Sound-area K-12 public schools
that demonstrate excellence in school leadership, teacher excellence
and student learning. Boeing selected the Beacon Hill school based
on its students steady improvement in Washington Assessment of Student
Learning achievement test scores.
Boeing created the grant to honor John D. Warner, who retired as
Boeings chief administrative officer in 2003 after a long and distinguished
career with the company. The award recognizes Warners longtime and
continuing dedication to reforming public education.
As an additional treat, Boeing also delivered 18 boxes of 787 Dreamliner
LEGO models to the school one for each classroom, plus 787 Dreamliner
magnets directing teachers to a Boeing Web site highlighting some
of the companys newest products at http://www.newairplane.com/.
