Scott
Carson, chief executive of Boeing Commercial Airplanes and Mike
Bair, Vice President of the 787 Program stated the following remarks
as being ready to roll out the 787 in July 8th, 2008:
"A
lot of people are working very, very hard around the world to
make sure this airplane gets to market on time," said Mike Bair,
vice president of the 787 program.
"We
are doing what we do best at Boeing ... make sure we deliver on
the commitments we made to our customers," Scott Carson, chief
executive of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, told reporters and industry
analysts during a teleconference to update them on the 787.
The
Boeing Company, Parters, and suppliers are working very hard to
get ready for role out the 787 in July 8th, 2008. In
the mean time, the Alenia Aeronautica, a
Finmeccanica company delivered the first carbon
fibre fuselage section of the 787 Dreamliner.
GROTTAGLIE,
Italy--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alenia Aeronautica, a Finmeccanica company,
today delivered the first carbon fibre fuselage sections of the
787 Dreamliner, manufactured at its Grottaglie plant.
The
two fuselage sections, the central one, no. 44 (8,5 metres long)
and the central-rear one, no. 46 (about 10 metres long) have been
loaded on the Boeing Dreamlifter to be transferred to the Charleston,
South Carolina, facility of Global Aeronautica in the United States.
Once
integrated at Global Aeronautica, the fuselage sections will be
transferred to Seattle for the final assembly by Boeing of the
first prototype of the innovative 787.
This
delivery is the culmination of a process that began in 2004 with
Alenia Aeronautica acting as independent prime partner of the
programme. Working as part of a global team, Alenia Aeronautica
has financed, designed, developed and produced the structural
aircraft components on contract, the infrastructure and the technological
processes necessary for their production. The production of a
one-piece, carbon fibre barrel has required innovative technologies
and processes that are being used in the aeronautical field for
the first time ever.
Alenia
Aeronautica's newest plant in Grottaglie is fully dedicated to
the production of the 787 fuselage sections and is one of the
most advanced aeronautical facilities in the world. Alenia Aeronautica
Foggia plant is also involved in this production where the horizontal
stabiliser is produced, consisting of two monolithic cocured boxes,
20 meters long and made, just as the fuselage and wings of the
787, of carbon fibre, with absolutely excellent design and production
technologies. The cocured box of the 787's horizontal stabiliser
produced in Foggia is to date the biggest composite monolithic
structure ever built for a commercial airplane and weighs 540
kg.
Alenia
Aeronautica has a substantial role in the production of the 787.
Alenia Aeronautica manufactures the central and rear fuselage
sections and the horizontal stabiliser. Alenia Aeronautica accounts
for 14% of the aircraft structure. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is
the most successful launch of an aircraft programme in the commercial
aviation history, with 475 orders obtained to date.
Alenia
Aeronautica, a Finmeccanica Company, is the largest Italian aeronautic
player which operates world-wide in the commercial and military
aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles and aerostructures. Alenia
Aeronautica also coordinates the activities of Aermacchi and Aeronavali
- wholly owned companies - respectively active in the design and
manufacturing of military trainer aircraft and in the overhaul,
maintenance and modification of military and civil aircraft. With
its joint venture ATR, Aelnia Aeronautica is the world leader
in the regional turboprop market. Over 2005 Alenia Aeronautica
reported a value of production of 2,046 millions Euro, backlog
for 6,865 millions Euro and orders for 3,230. The total workforce
is 11,198.

Alenia
builds the C-27J, the only true modern tactical airlifter available
today, and plays key roles in world-class programs like Eurofighter
Typhoon, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and the European UCAV demonstrator
Neuron.
Alenia
is a leading supplier of advanced aerostructures for airliners
including the Boeing 787 and Airbus A380.
Its
subsidiaries include Alenia Aermacchi, the world leader in training
aircraft, and Alenia Aeronavali, the respected overhaul and modification
specialist. ATR, its joint venture with EADS, dominates the regional
turboprop market.
Alenia
Aeronautica is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Finmeccanica, the
Italian advanced technology group that it among the world's top
10 players in the aerospace, defense and security markets.

Boeing is sending its own engineers to suppliers producing the
composite carbon-fiber wing and body parts, including Mitsubishi

the first parts come in when they're needed.
Boeing
is closing in on 500 orders for the 787, which is the company's
fastest-selling jetliner ever.
