President Bush Meets with U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon
The Oval Office

President George W. Bush and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met with the press in the Oval Office last Tuesday, January 16, 2007.

President Bush appreciated UN Secretary Ban Ki-moon that he opened up the discussion with a strong commitment to democracy and freedom and the president expressed that the United States wants to work with the United Nations to achieve a peace through the spread of freedom.

President Bush appreciated that UN Secretary Ban Ki-moon's commitment to help the suffering people in Darfur. President expressed that he wishes all the best as he works hard to convince the President of the Sudan that it's in his interest, and in the world's interest, that we allow enhanced African Union peacekeepers in to provide peace and security for people who are suffering.

They discussed about the Iran and North Korea. President is confident that he will do a great job like previous job that he handled for Republic Of Korea Foreign Minister ( January 2004 to November 1 2006 ). Mr. Ban Ki-moon was elected to the eighth Secretary-General in October 13, 2006 by the United Nations General Assembly and was sworn in on December 14, 2006.

United Secretary Ban Ki-Moon expressed that it is honor to serve this United Nations, our global body, United Nations. At the same time, he is very much humbled by all the challenges facing in the 21st century.

He addressed that he needs strong participation and support from the United States in all activities of the United Nations.

The United Nations and United States have shared objectives: peace and security, freedom, democracy. He believes that All these important goals and ideas are what the United States is also trying to achieve.

He is hoping to work closely with the U.S. government, including the shared goal. It is positive to see that he committed to devote to address all these important issues: Middle East, and Darfur, Lebanon, and Somalia, North Korea, Millennium Development Goals and climate changes. All are global issues, which require global, collective wisdom and effort.
