The 3rd Washington State Korean-American Day Celebration

The 3rd Korean American Day celebration ceremony was held at the Clover Park Technical College, McGavick Conference Center bld #23. In January 9th, 2010 at 10:30 AM which Senator Paull Shin of Edmonds, WA sponsored Senate Bill 5166, designating January 13th and State of Washington Governor Chris Gregoire signed bill on April 9th, 2007 which the bill as "Korean American Day" designating January 13th since the history commemorates the first arrival of Korean immigrants to Honolulu, Hawaii on January 13, 1903. This day honors the accomplishments and contributions of Korean Americans.

The celebration event hosted by the Tacoma Korean Association, began with Opening prayer by Rev. Samuel Kim and followed by the Main guest speakers, President of the 3rd Korean American Celebration, John K. Oh, Senator Paull Shin, Consul General, Lee Ha Ryong, and he delivered ROK President Lee Myong Pak's Congratulatory letter, Pierce County Executive, Pat McCarthy, City of Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland, and City of Lakewood Douglas G. Richardson, KAD Committee chair, Lee Sang Kyu, and traditional performances. The celebration of Korean American Day carried on the legacy of Governor Gregoire signed bill SB 5166 in April 9th, 2007 which was sponsored Washington Senators: Shin, Kastama, Marr, Murray, Kaufman, Kilmer, Zarelli, Eide, Berkey, Franklin, Jacobsen, Rockefeller, McAuliffe, Regala, Predemore, Clements, Keiser, Rasmussen, Sheldon, Delvin, Roach and witnessed by the ROK Consul General (Kwon Chan Ho), Senator Paull Shin, Wa State Chapter of KAF, Han Won sup, John K. Oh and witnessed by many other Washington State Community Leaders.

The 3rd Korean American Day celebration ceremony carried history of the commemorates the first arrival of Korean immigrants to Honolulu, Hawaii on January 13, 1903 as performing the "A Creative Dance for the history of Korean Immigration, Jang Jang Moo Yong -by the Morning Star Dance Group -which led by the Morning Star, Choreographer and President, Chae Ji Yan. This Performance recalled Korean immigrants' pure which dressed in white Korean traditional and the hard workmanship on the sugar plantations when they first landed in January 13, 1903.
