Honoring the Life and work of
Senator Paull Shin

On February 11th, 2014 at 10:00 AM, Senate Resolution 8680 for Honoring Life of Senator Paull Shin was proceeded by Lt. Governor Brad Owen and honored by Senators: Liias, Nelson, Fraser, Chase, Mullet, Bailey, Kline, Pedersen, Hatfield, Hobbs, Kohl-Welles, Billing, Cleveland, McAuliffe, Darneille, Angel, Dammeier, Rivers, Hewitt, King, Benton, Padden, Pearson, Becker, Sheldon, O'Ban, Frockt, Holmquist Newbry, Roach, Brown, Litzow, Dansel, and Hill. Families and Friends and community leaders were participated for this event at Capitol, Olympia, WA.

It was a solemn ceremony and many senators spoke well and appreciated for Senator Paull Shin, you can view senator speaking via TVW The Capitol Record: All of the Senators who were at this special Honoring Senator Paull Shin on Feb. 11th, 2014 have mentioned that how good of Senator Paull Shin and his passionate work and that they will all miss Senator Paull Shin. His wonderful work and his hard work of legislative work for Washington State and all will carry on his legacy. Many are appreciate his great work and dedication especially work with Korea and Washington State even further have been great ambassador for U.S. Korea relationship. Many of us moved our heart when the senators honoring his life for Senator Paull Shin . Many have touched their heart by Senator Paull Shin. Finally SR8680 Honoring Former Senator Shin has adopted for the Senate Resolution:

Senator Paull Shin said that What Can I say, I don't know what to say, Learned so much from you and he said that he has tremendous respect for Lt. Governor who have Korean Adoptees.  Learned so much ethics for life. Last 18 years learned so much love and care each other and made differences.

He mentioned that he could not be who he is now without all of senators great friendship.   He also mentioned that he was dopted by American GI and brought him to America, He learned ABC and GED and became who he is now: He sure had America Dream come true.  He appreciated  to America and said thank you America! He offered that he will be happy to translating Korean for the Senators if needed.  And appreciated Lt. Governor for making possible this  honoring life for him. Lt. Governor appreciated to Senator.  And motion carried. Senator Paull Shin Retirement and Appreciation Dinner was held on January 31st, 2014at 6:00 PM at KOAM TV Station, Federal Way Washington State.

The event coordinated by KAC Board Chair, Synn Kwang Jae and Korean American Political Education Foundation and Overseas Korean Political Council President, Michael Chong.

KAC Board Chair, Synn Kwang Jae expressed that Senator Paull Shin’s hard work and his dedication cannot compare anywhere and we must carry on with his legacy of great work and learning from him and appreciate it with all the positive work that he has done for the communities and all.

Consul General addressed that with Senator Paull Shin’s support our community added so much of achievement for the citizens need and has been always resolved with no problem. His dedication and his selfless support for our communities will never forget though out the history.

The Former Oregon Senator, Lim, said that Senator Paull Shin’s life and his life path is so similar even the age is similar. People were laughing with his question to Senator Paull Shin, “I was shoe shiner when I was a little boy in Korea, were you shoe shiner in Korea, too? I was five terms of in the office legislative, and Senator Paull Shin, too. We even both just had 50th anniversary. Anyhow, Senator Lim is continue to serve for the communities and volunteer work, he encouraged Senator Paull Shin to work together with him as well, and not retiring.

Representative Cindy Ryu mentioned that because of Senator Paull Shin, her office of legislative work has been help so much and easier path for her, with his help which he has made great path for her. She couldn’t say how to say thanks to him enough. Even if he is leaving the office of legislative, his work what he has done and what he accomplished immensely made everyone easy and effectiveness and greatness of work will carry on with great lesson.

Shari Song said that she learned how to campaign with Senator Paull Shin’s role model what he has done for his path. Door to door visiting people tirelessly with so many shoes were worn out, she did similar situation but, not as many as changing shoes like what Senator Paull Shin did. However, she has learned so many things from Senator Paull Shin.

The Federation of Korean American Association NW States President, Kim Jun Bae said that Senator Paull Shin is not retiring but, there are many more work to do for our communities and waiting, his positive work has been for a great role model and making our communities better always and his legacy will continue to carry on and appreciate his dedication and selfless and tireless support for everyone and adding our economic better always.

Susan Lee, National Unification Advisory Council Seattle for Korean Association, president, Susan Lee said that Senator Paull Shin will never forget for her heart and our communities especially for her brother, Rocky Kim who were representative and her brother’s success of office for the legislative was from Senator Paull Shin’s Support although he is in Heaven now. Senator Paull Shin’s wonderful role model and his energetic and intelligent and selfless support will remain to all of us and appreciate very much.

This performance was done by South Korean Intern Student for Senator Paull Shin to show Intern Students' Appreciation. Their appreciation expression was undescribable how much they have learned from Senator Paull Shin and from many other Officials. They love Washington State. Especially Seattle, WA.



Senator Paull Shin is the first Korean American ever elected to the Washington State Legislature and elected 5 times as a member of the Washington State Senate Democratic Party, elected from the 21st Legislative District, served in southwest Snohomish County. Mukilteo and portions of Everett, Edmonds, and Lynnwood are the cities within the district. Senator Shin currently serves on the Senate Agriculture, Water & Rural Economic Development and Trade & Economic Development Committees since 1998.

Senator Paull Shin resigned from the Washington State Senate effective immediately following his diagnosis with Alzheimer's disease since January 7th, 2014
