Remembering Former Lead Director of the Boeing Co. Board and former chairman and chief executive of Hwelett Packard Co. Lewis Platt 1941- 2005.

According to Boeing News, dated September 9, 2005: Lewis Platt, Former Boeing Chairman of the Board Director, and the former head of Hewlett-Packard has died at the age of 64.

NewsForge web site, dated September, 9, 2005: reported that Lew Platt died Thursday of a brain aneurism. He was 64.

Jim McNerney, Boeing chairman, president and chief executive officer, said that "I am deeply saddened by Lew's untimely death, and I speak for all Boeing directors and employees in extending our deepest sympathy to his family. "

"Lew shepherded Boeing with strength, grace, dignity and integrity through a period when the company most needed his steady hand. He was a compassionate man who put his own retirement and personal plans on the back burner to ensure that Boeing never missed a beat through its recent recovery."

He served as following:

Started at Hewlett-Packard Co. in 1966 as an entry-level engineer and rose through the ranks to become Executive Vice President in 1987, President and Chief Executive officer in 1992.

1993, He succeeded company co-founder David Packard as chairman of the board of directors.

In 1995, he served on President Clinton's Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations and served as chairman of the World Trade Organization Task Force. He was also a member of The Business Council.3,

He Retired in 1999, giving way to Carly Fiorina as chair and CEO of the Palo Alto, Calif. Company.

He was the CEO of Kendall-Jackson Wine Eastates Ltd. from 2000 to 2001.

Began to serve the World's largest aerospace Boeing company. He served as non-executive chairman from December 2003 through June 2005. He was a great leader.

As the largest manufacturer of satellites, commercial jetliners, and military aircraft, the company employs more than 162,000 people and serves customers in 145 countries. It is also a global market leader in missile defense, human space flight, and launch services. Boeing has headquarters in Chicago, Ill., and is the largest exporter in the United States, with revenues of more than $52 billion in 2004.

Lew Platt is survived by his wife Joan, four children and one grandchild. Lew Platt was working hard to stop the subsidies that Airbus gets to develop new planes. The U.S. government has filed a complaint about the subsidies with the World Trade Organization. It reminds of me that Seattle PI's interview with Lew Platt in June 15, 2005.

Q: A defense bill in Congress includes an amendment that would prevent the Pentagon from purchasing goods and services from foreign companies that receive government subsidies. Do you support this?

A: "We did not lobby for that language. It was not our idea. I had the pleasure of telling a number of Europeans (at the air show) that they better read that as the mood of the U.S. Congress. That was their idea. "This is Congress flexing its muscles. If your guys in Europe do not address this subsidy issue in a more forthright manner, then we have some things that we can do. If you insist on a tilted playing field there, then we can tilt the field here.' "It was not something we pressed for. But the fact that the language exists, am I troubled by that, no, not at all. I'd be foolish not to put some pressure on the other side to act reasonably."

Lew Platt also was working diligently and wanted to see the 767 Tanker Deal to success. The World Leading and The Most Advanced Tanker and Transport "Boeing KC 767" From Our nation's Great Company(Boeing) which we are still waiting to see sign from President George Bush to approve to build from the world most leading company, The Boeing Co.,expecting to see 60,000 job around the states.....

He was a great leader and he is highly respected by the Boeing employees and many people. We sure do appreciate his integrity, thoughtfulness, wonderful leadership. He will be missed very much.
