According to reliefweb.int, dated January 1st, 2005, Indian Ocean Earthquake and tsunamis killed people about 136,000 in South and Southeast Asia and East Africa: Indonesia (79,940), Sri Lanka (41,008), India (10,763), Thailand (4,541), Myanmar, Maldives (67), and Malaysia (65), Bangladesh (2) Overall Region wide 136,000 dead. (3) It is sudden and disastrous Tsunamis. USAID responded rapidly to support this terrible tragedy.

When the disasters happen to any countries, USAID is always comes the first and the most generous support and unselfishness aid. Some record shows around $1.2 billion dollars spent for economic and humanitarian assistance from USAID alone. USAID is the U.S. government agency (U.S. Federal government agency) responsible for economic and humanitarian assistance around the world. President George Bush Committed $350 Million (1) for Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Efforts (Magnitude: 8.9) in December 31st, 2004. Besides USAID, there are so many organizations, churches, and many companies are already supporting incredible amount of donations.

Per CNN, TOKYO, Japan (dated January 1st, 2004)-- Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi has announced his nation would offer $500 million in grant aid for the tsunami-stricken regions of southern Asia. More than $1.5 billion has now been pledged by the international community. (2)

During New Year's Eve celebrating, New York's Times Square, and many places marked a moment of silence for the victims of devastating tsunamis.

According to USAID does not accept donations. However, they do work together with many of the organizations to provide U.S. taxpayer assistance to the victims of the earthquake/tsunami. USAID encourages cash donations.
