President Obama proudly introduced Green Governement On Monday, October 5th, 2009, for the Federal Employees President Barack Obama signed an Executive Order on Federal Sustainability – and in doing so, committed the Federal government to lead by example, practice what we preach and help build a clean energy economy through how we operate. To harness the collective wisdom of the more than 1.8 million civilian employees and our men and women in uniform, Federal Government is launching the GreenGov Challenge, an online participatory way for Federal employees in order to suggest clean energy ideas and vote on others. Some of the top ideas will be presented to the Steering Committee on Federal Sustainability – a group comprised of a senior official from each agency who is responsible for delivering among other things, each agency’s sustainability plan. President Obama is asking to submit their idea of green from Federal employees to submit and be part of the GreenGov Challenge and help green government. this will be the Federal employees to have chance to positively impact how their agency will meet its 2020 greenhouse gas emissions reduction target. The GreenGov challenge runs from Oct. 19th — 31st . ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The research shows the Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century and its projected continuation. Global surface temperature increased 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the last century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes that most of the observed temperature increase since the middle of the 20th century was caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases resulting from human activity such as fossil fuel burning and deforestation See the temperature differences since Year 1880 to Year 2000: The uncertainty in this estimate arises from the use of models with differing sensitivity to greenhouse gas concentrations and the use of differing estimates of future greenhouse gas emissions. The environmentalists and many scientists are focusing on the period up to the year 2100. However, warming is expected to continue beyond 2100 even if emissions stop, because of the large heat capacity of the oceans and the long lifetime of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. An increase in global temperature will cause sea levels to rise and will change the amount and pattern of precipitation, probably including expansion of subtropical deserts. The continuing retreat of glaciers, permafrost and sea ice is expected, with warming being strongest in the Arctic. Other likely effects include increases in the intensity of extreme weather events, species extinctions, and changes in agricultural yields. It is recommended that mitigation to reduce further emissions; adaptation to reduce the damage caused by warming; and, more speculatively, geoengineering to reverse global warming. Most national governments have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Kyoto
Protocol started since June
1992
which was from The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
(UNFCCC or FCCC) is an international environmental treaty produced at
the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED),
informally known as the Earth Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro from 3
to 14 June 1992. One of its first tasks was to establish national greenhouse gas inventories, as a count of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals. In 1997, the Kyoto Protocol was concluded and established legally binding obligations for developed countries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions which was responsible by the United Nations Secretariat charged with supporting the operation of the Convention. It is only 46 days left for the next The United Nations Climate Change Conference which will take place at the Bella Center in Copenhagen, Denmark, between December 7 and December 18, 2009. The conference includes the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the 5th Meeting of the Parties (COP/MOP 5) to the Kyoto Protocol. According to the Bali Road Map, a framework for climate change mitigation beyond 2012 is to be agreed there. The conference was preceded by the Climate Change: Global Risks, Challenges and Decisions scientific conference, which took place in March 2009 and was also held at the Bella Center. Besides the GreenGovernment in United States, there is a U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, In February, 2005, Mayor Nickels issued the “Kyoto Challenge,” a national effort to tackle climate disruption and implement the Kyoto Protocol in cities across the United States. With hundreds of mayors across the United States now participating, the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement continues to gain support. To meet the Kyoto goal locally and to provide a “green-print” for others to use elsewhere, the Mayor appointed the Green Ribbon Commission on Climate Protection. The Commission—which includes 18 leaders from Seattle 's business, labor, non-profit, government and academic communities— was specifically charged with developing local solutions to global climate disruption and beginning development of a Climate Action Plan. Even the Boeing Company, Microsoft and many other companies are practicing the Green-environment to follow the Kyoto Challenge to meet. Reported by Catch4all.com, Sandra Englund.
