Sept 9 (Reuters) - An AeroMexico passenger plane was hijacked at the airport in the Mexican resort of Cancun on Wednesday and flown to Mexico City's international airport. Transport Minister Juan Molinar told Mexican radio the aircraft had landed safely. El Universal and Reforma websites said three men earlier seized control of the plane and threatened to blow it up unless they were allowed to speak to President Felipe Calderon. ---------------------------. An AeroMexico flight from Cancun is forced to land in Mexico City with about 104 people aboard. It is the first hijacking on a flight in North America since 9/11, 2001. All 104 passengers and crew of 8 were safely off the aircraft. "There was no bomb" said Transport Minister Juan Molinar to reporter.
Year 2001, 9-11, total 2,993 people, including the hijackers, died in the attacks. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Pennsylvania, after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington, D.C. There were no survivors from any of the flights. A new office tower was completed on the site of 7 World Trade Center in year 2006. The 1 World Trade Center is still under construction at 1,776 ft (541 m) it is scheduled to be completed in 2011, this building will be one of the tallest buildings in North America.
