According to Boeing News : SINGAPORE, Feb. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Jakarta-based Lion Air today finalized a firm order for 201 737 MAXs and 29 Next-Generation 737-900ERs (extended range). The agreement, first announced last November in Indonesia, also includes purchase rights for an additional 150 airplanes.

"The 737 MAX is the best choice for Lion Air and the best airplane to serve our passengers," said Rusdi Kirana, Lion Air Founder and President Director. "We're excited to be the first airline in Asia to fly the 737 MAX and to be the global launch customer of the 737 MAX 9."

With orders for 230 airplanes valued at $22.4 billion at list prices, this deal is the largest commercial airplane order ever in Boeing's history by both dollar value and total number of airplanes. Lion Air will also acquire purchase rights for an additional 150 airplanes.

"Lion Air has been a leader in Indonesia from the very beginning," said Dinesh Keskar, vice president of Asia-Pacific and India Sales for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "Today more people are flying in Asia at lower fares because of the 737 and this historic 737 MAX order will help connect more people in the future."

The 737 MAX is a new engine variant of the world's best selling airplane and builds on the strengths of today's Next-Generation 737. The 737 MAX incorporates the latest-technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market.

Airlines operating the 737 MAX will see a 10-12 percent fuel burn improvement over today's most fuel efficient single-aisle airplanes and a 7 percent operating cost per seat advantage over tomorrow's competition.

To date, the 737 MAX has orders and commitments for more than 1,000 airplanes from 15 customers and the Next-Generation 737 family has won orders for more than 6,600 airplanes.

Lion Air, Indonesia's largest private airline, currently operates or has on order a total of 178 Next-Generation 737s.

 Last year in November, 2011, President Obama expressed that this order is expecting to create many jobs in Boeing.

Lion Air currently operates Boeing 737-900ER, Boeing 737-300,400 and Boeing MD-90 aircraft. To accommodate the high demand of air transportation, Lion Air chose the very efficient single aisle commercial airplane that Boeing developed.

With the latest addition of the Boeing 737-900ER into Lion Air’s fleet, it will enable the airline to offer more non-stop flights with affordable fares to more destinations.

Lion Air received the first 737-900ER in April 2007 when the airplane was delivered in a special dual paint scheme that combined the Lion Air emblem on the vertical stabilizer and the Boeing livery colors on the fuselage. The airline has received a total of eleven 737-900ERs to date. Lion Air operates an all-Boeing fleet and is the first hybrid carrier in Asia. The Boeing 737 MAX is a new family of aircraft being developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes to replace the Boeing 737 Next Generation family. The primary change will be the use of the larger and more efficient CFM International LEAP-1B engines. The airframe is to receive some modifications as well. The 737 MAX is scheduled for first delivery in 2017, 50 years after the 737 first flew.

Boeing - Indonesia Lion Air Announces  Agreement for 737 MAXs and Next-Generation 737s President Obama hopes for boost from Boeing-Indonesia jet deal

 President Barack Obama welcomed on Friday, November 18, 2011 1:33 am EST, a $21.7 billion jet deal his administration helped broker between Boeing and an Indonesian airline, calling it a "win-win" for U.S. workers and Asian consumers.

The agreement was announced by the White House near the end of Obama's nine-day Pacific tour designed to emphasize trade opportunities in Asia he hopes will bolster the still-weak U.S. economy ahead of next year's election.

"This is an example of how we are going to achieve the long-term goals I set of doubling our exports over the next several years," President Obama said after executives from Boeing and Lion Air, Indonesia's largest private carrier, signed a commitment for the jet orders.

Their provisional agreement for the sale of 230 short-haul 737 jets, worth $21.7 billion at list prices, sets up the largest commercial order in Boeing's history, toppling a previous record set just days ago as the industry taps into relentless demand in emerging economies.

It is also a boost for Boeing's efforts to develop a revamped version of its best-selling 737 to compete with a model produced by its European rival Airbus.

The deal from Lion Air opens the door to orders for 29 Next-Generation 737-900 extended range planes and 201 of Boeing's new 737 MAX, an updated version of its best-selling model.

The company said the 201 provisional orders for the 737 MAX were included in previously announced commitments for 700 of the planes, which are due to enter service in 2017 equipped with fuel-efficient engines.

President Obama was pleased when learned a "win-win" situation for consumers in the region and U.S. workers and said his administration and the Ex-Im bank played a key role in facilitating the deal.

President Obama has been working a great deal  in order to expending trade ties with Asia which will boosting the economy.  Also he is expecting to bringing down the 9 percent U.S. unemployment rate. The first U.S. President to attended the East Asia Summit on November 18th, 2011. President Obama made special effort on the Asia Pacific, and engaging more deeply in regional organizations, so we can meet our common challenges together for bilateral relation.

During his nine-day Asia-Pacific tour that began in Hawaii, Obama has sought to emphasize an agenda of expanding trade ties with Asia, the world's fastest growing region.

Boeing said the Lion Air order, when finalized, would be its largest ever "by both dollar volume and total number of airplanes."

The plane maker said strong customer demand was driving its plans to raise production over the next three years.

"As a result of that increase, we will definitely be adding many more jobs," Boeing spokesman Doug Alder Jr. said, without giving a specific figure.  

The White House said the agreement would support more than 110,000 jobs at Boeing and U.S. suppliers.

Previewing other deals to be announced on the sidelines of an East Asia Summit on the Indonesian island of Bali, the White House said Boeing reached a $2.4 billion deal for Singapore Airlines to buy eight 777-300ER aircraft.

General Electric Co will also announce a deal to sell 50 engines to Indonesia's Garuda Airlines in an agreement worth $1.3 billion.

And in a $325 million deal presented as one of the largest defense procurements in Brunei's history, United Technologies Corp unit Sikorsky will supply 12 Black Hawk helicopters to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Support Helicopter Project.

In November 2011, Boeing announced the selection of the 68.1 in (173 cm) fan diameter. Because of the larger fan diameter compared to the 737 Next Generation family, the nose landing gear will have to be lengthened by 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) to maintain the required ground clearance.  At the same time, Boeing reported more than 600 commitments for the 737 MAX, with 100 of them being from American Airlines. Firm configuration for the 737 MAX is currently scheduled for 2013.

Boeing - Indonesia Lion Air Announces  Agreement for 737 MAXs and Next-Generation 737s on November 17th, 2011 at the Dubai and  President Obama is hoping to boost from Boeing-Indonesia jet deal.  There are 3 Variants which will be replaced for 737 families: The three variants of the new family are the 737 MAX 7, the 737 MAX 8 and the 737 MAX 9, which are based on the 737-700, −800 and −900ER, respectively.  Boeing will not be upgrading the smallest member of the 737 Next Generation family, the 737-600. Boeing has stated that the fuselage lengths and door configurations from the Boeing 737 Next Generation family will be retained on the 737 MAX variants :   

737 MAX 7 – Replacement for the 737-700 and 737-700ER, 737 MAX 8 – Replacement for the 737-800, abd 737 MAX 9 – Replacement for the 737-900ER.
