KAVA
is getting ready for the KAVA Convention 2004.
KAVA
opened it’s preposition meeting at Federal Way Shin Song Restaurant in
Sept. 13, 2003. KAVA Board members, KAVA Convention 2004 Prep Commitees,
and The Medias: JoongAng USA Daily News, HanKuK ILBo Daily News,
Korea Times, KOAM TV, Media HanKuk, and Radio Hankuk attended this meeting.
There
were many questions about the new primary voting rules for September 14,
7am to 8pm.
The ballot for the primary election will be different from what we have
seen in previous years. In partisan contests (i.e. Republican, Democrat
or Libertarian candidates) you should choose the ballot that is of major
interest to you. But all voters can vote for their choice of judges, the
Superintendent of Public Instruction. Etc.
KAVA 2004 Convention will be different than other years of KAVA convention.
KAVA (Korean American Voters Alliances) and KSU (Korean American University
of Washington Students) will work together for KAVA 2004 convention.
In
the past, KAVA concentrated on gathering more people for the convention.
But, for KAVA 2004, KAVA will be concentrating to teach how to building
Coalitions with other communities and learning about New Candidates for
the upcoming 2004 election in November. KAVA will have a Candidates’ Forum
and Debate for the KAVA 2004 convention. KAVA is concentrating communicating
real value rather than how many people are coming to the convention. KAVA
will concentrate on communicating through the media for Korean American
voters. KAVA is estimating that about 800 people will attend the KAVA
2004 Convention. KAVA is also looking into providing simultaneous translation
for all those who may need translation services.
KAVA’s
mission is, “Korean American Voters Alliance is to unite and politically
empower the Korean American community, and to enhance its profile and
influence. We will accomplish this through: Voter registration; Civic
education and participation; and Leadership development Advocacy on issues
that affect the Korean-American community”.
KAVA
has collected over 5,000 members. KAVA is expecting more young people
to vote and involved for upcoming general election in November 2nd, 2004.
KAVA
2004 Convention will be in October, 23rd, Saturday at Kane Hall, University
of Washington.
