Korean Airlines: South Korea just became part of 787 Dreamliner family: Aerospace Division (KAL-ASD), based in Seoul, to provide the raked wing tips for the 787-8 Dreamliner.

The raked wing tips are approximately 17 feet in length and provide aerodynamic
efficiency for long-haul routes.

"KAL-ASD is a proven performer," said Mike Bair, vice president and general manager of the 787 program. "We selected them to be part of our team because of their capabilities and competencies."

"We are very pleased to be involved in the Boeing 787-8 raked wing tip production, not only as a supplier but also as a partner in the aircraft design and development stage," said Mr. Suh Sang Mook, president of Korean Airlines -- Aerospace Division. He added, "Korean Air's Aerospace Division has greatly expanded its capabilities over the years and we aim to increase our presence in this market."


KAL-ASD Since its foundation in 1976, Korean Air Aerospace Division has played a vital role in establishing the foundation of the Korean aerospace industry. Korean Air is currently supplying major aircraft manufacturers worldwide with wings, fuselage and empennage components.

September 7, 2005: Boeing and LOT Polish Airlines Announce Order for Up to 14 787s:
LOT Polish Airlines today reached an agreement for up to 14 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, making LOT the first global network carrier in Europe to operate the world's newest and most technologically advanced commercial jetliner.
"Replacing our Boeing 767s with the all-new 787 allows us to lead with new and innovative passenger-comfort features on our North Atlantic operations and will be key in opening new Asian destinations," said LOT President and Chief Executive Marek Grabarek. "The 787 fits perfectly with our cost-reduction and profitability strategies."

"The 787's compelling technical merits and economics allowed LOT 's leadership to make the best decision for the airline, and its passengers," said Marlin Dailey, vice president of Sales for Europe and Central Asia, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. " LOT will be the first European airline to take delivery of the 787 as it continues its proud tradition of innovation and market leadership operating the newest, most advanced models."

August 10, 2005: Royal Air Maroc Selects Boeing 787 Dreamliner: "Royal Air Maroc selected the 787 because of its unmatched capability and value after a thorough analysis,” said Mounir. “We look forward to working closely with Royal Air Maroc to bring the efficient, reliable, comfortable and quiet 787 into service."

Royal Air Maroc's Board of Directors agreed to purchase the Boeing 787s on July 29, following a long and well-defined competition that had been extended on two occasions. After declaring the tender to be clear and transparent, RAM's Board of Directors instructed the airline to directly engage Boeing in negotiations for the purchase of the 787 as the best solution for its long-haul fleet.

The airline noted the distinct advantages of the 787 that will allow it to operate more profitably with lower fuel burn, while providing its passengers the Dreamliner's unique comfort and interior enhancements. The lower weight, superior strength and maintenance advantages of the 787's composite fuselage allows for higher humidity inside the cabin, larger windows, better air filtration and lower cabin altitude, which translates to more comfort and a physiologically less stressful trip for passengers.

June 21, 2005: Boeing, Vietnam Airlines Complete Boeing 787 Dreamliner Purchase Agreement: "This is another great step as Boeing and Vietnam Airlines continue to build our strong, long-term working together relationship," said Mulally, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "The competitive advantages of the 787 Dreamliner will help Vietnam Airlines continue its incredible growth and the development of its global route structure."

Vietnam Airlines President and CEO Nguyen Xuan Hien said that "We are looking forward to operating the 787 Dreamliner." "The superior efficiency of the 787 will allow Vietnam Airlines to further develop our route structure to include city pairs that would otherwise not be financially viable, while providing the best comfort to our passengers."

May 31, 2005: Ethiopian Airlines CEO Ato Girma Wake said. "The 787, represents the future—one in which Ethiopian Airlines will play a major part—and we view this airplane to be a cutting-edge solution to bolster our passenger service, improve our efficiencies and add to the airline's bottom line."

Northwest Airlines, May 5, 2005, the nation's fourth-largest carrier, orders 18 Boeing 787s, service starting in 2008, and took options and purchase rights on 50 more of the Boeing jets. "Our passengers will enjoy the benefits of the 787's new cabin environment and passenger amenities. The 787 will help us realize our goals of being one of the world's top ten passenger airlines by 2010 and to reduce our costs by 10 percent."

Feb. 25, 2005, European carrier Icelandair ordered two Boeing 787 Dreamliners, making it the 16th "The 787 Dreamliner's unprecedented efficiency, economics, range and passenger comfort are ideally suited for our operations and our commitment to providing superior service to our passengers," said Hannes Smarason, chairman of the Flugleidir Icelandair Group.

Feb. 4, 2005, Ethiopian Airlines five firm orders and purchase rights for five more. The first plane is scheduled for delivery to Addis Ababa, the airline’s home base, in 2008.

Jan. 28, 2005, The People's Republic of China signed a preliminary agreement for the purchase of 60 Boeing 7E7 Dreamliners by Chinese airlines. The agreement, which will be finalized at a later date, is valued at approximately US$7.2 billion, based on average list prices.

The 787 is the perfect airplane to welcome the world to China during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. It will be the most technologically advanced commercial airplane in the world with more amenities to offer our passengers, and fuel efficiency that is only surpassed by its revenue potential," said Li Hai, president -- China Aviation Supply Company, at a signing ceremony in Washington, D.C., hosted by Assistant Secretary of Commerce, Al Frink.

"The 787 is a good reflection of what China offers -- world-class facilities, exemplary service, and unmatched return on investment," Li said. "The momentum behind the 787 continues to build," said Alan Mulally, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "We're honored to have these key Chinese airlines choose the 787 and join our launch team. The 787's advantages in efficiency, economics, environmental performance and passenger comfort are perfectly matched for China 's growing, world-class aviation system."


The 787 was launched in April 2004 with an ANA (All Nippon Airways) firm order for 50 airplanes. Production will begin in 2006. First flight is expected in 2007 with certification, delivery and entry into service in 2008.

Japan Airlines, 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 20 more option “The 787 will be the key airplane on a variety of domestic and international routes and will provide outstanding flexibility in our route planning,” said Takenori Matsumoto, senior managing director, Japan Airlines Corp. “We are very excited about the benefits of the 787 and the wonderful flying experience that it will provide our customers.”

Continental Airlines Ordered 10 Boeing 787s

"Continental is a bellwether addition to the 7E7 Launch Team," said Mike Bair, Boeing vice president and general manager of the 7E7 program. "Continental understands the superior operating economics, faster turnaround times and lower maintenance costs of Boeing airplanes."

Blue Panorama of Italy and First Choice Airways of the United Kingdom have selected the 787 Dreamliner to replace and expand their existing airplane fleets. These two carriers are the first in Europe to choose the 787.

Vietnam Airlines plans to use the 7E7-8 to expand its route system and to replace some existing airplanes. The airline has not made an engine selection. "We are looking forward to becoming a Boeing 7E7 operator," said Nguyen Xuan Hien, president and CEO - Vietnam Airlines. "The 7E7-8 will allow Vietnam Airlines to further develop our route structure to include city pairs that would otherwise not be financially viable, while providing increased comfort to our passengers."

There are three different 787: Boeing 787-3, 787-8 Dreamliner, and 787-9 Dreamliner.

787 will bring the economics of large jet transports to the middle of the market, using 20 percent less fuel than any other airplane of its size.

The 787 decreased operating costs because of its more fuel efficient performance, increased revenue potential from cargo capability is drawing customer interest .

It is positive to see that Boeing's 787 Dreamliner is being developed New fuel-efficient engines and more lightweight composites with great cargo spaces.

Boeing's 787 Dreamliner will be the industry's first jetliner with a nearly all-composite airframe and latest high technology. Recent media shows many commercial airliners having so much trouble by the fuel cost however, there are many choices to reduce cost effect. One of the choices : The Dreamliner 787 will bring the economics of large jet transports to the middle of the market, using 20 percent less fuel than any other airplane of its size. Assembly starts in 2006, First flight will be in 2007, and Certification/Entry into service will be in 2008.
