According to the USGS report, SOUTHERN QINGHAI had Magnitude 6.9 on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 23:49:38, UTC Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 07:49:38 AM at epicenter.
At least 1,144 people killed, 417 missing, 11,744 injured and many buildings damaged in Yushu County.

USGS report shows that the 6.9 Magnitude China earthquake was happened at the southern Qinghai Province, China in April 13, 2010 which occurred as a result of strike-slip faulting in the tectonically complex region of the eastern Tibetan Plateau. This earthquake occurred several hundred kilometers north of the convergent India: Eurasia plate boundary, where the Indian Plate is moving northwards with respect to Eurasia at a rate of approximately 46 mm/yr. This convergence drives the uplift of the Himalaya Mountains, at a rate of approximately 10 mm/yr, and the Tibetan Plateau, which is an extremely broad region of thickened and uplifted crust sitting above 4.5-5 km.

Looking back China earthquake history, the biggist casualty was in January 23rd, 1556 in China which was magnitude 8i,0 and deaths total number were approximately more than 820,000 people which was the deadliest earthquake of all time 1556 Shaanxi earthquake. More than 97 counties in the provinces of Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, Gansu, Hebei, Shandong, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu and Anhui were affected. An 840-kilometre (520 mi)-wide area was destroyed, and in some counties 60% of the population was killed. Most of the population in the area at the time lived in yaodongs, artificial caves in loess cliffs, many of which collapsed during the catastrophe with great loss of life.

Before the SOUTHERN QINGHAI Magnitude 6.9 on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 23:49:38, UTC Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 07:49:38 AM at epicenter, the earthquake happend in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China in Qapqal on January 25, 2009. The earthquake magnitude 5.0 affected more than 4,500 people and caused house collapses and damages. In total, 4,549 people in the Xibe Autonomous County of Qapqal and Zhaosu County were affected. They have been relocated to schools, government buildings and tents, said a regional civil affairs department official. No casualties have been reported so far. A total of 198 houses collapsed and 2,928 were damaged. The direct economic loss was estimated at 21 million yuan ($US 3.1 million).

The magnitude 7.9 Wenchuan (Sichuan) earthquake of May 12, 2008 occurred on the margin of the Tibetan Plateau, in contrast with the April 13, 2010 earthquake, which occurred in the plateau's interior. The 2008 earthquake killed over 70,000 people and displaced over 15 million.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao urged all-out efforts to help rescue those affected by the earthquake and Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has been sent to the region.

On April 14, President Obama's White House Office of the Press Secretary report shows that President Obama is sending his deepest condolences to families of the victims of the earthquake in China’s Qinghai province. "The American people are saddened by the loss of life and the devastation caused by this disaster. Our thoughts and prayers are with those injured or displaced, and all the people of China in this difficult period. We stand ready to assist in any way possible."

On April 14th, 2010, United Nation (UN) Secretary of General Ban Ki-moon expresed his deepest condolances to the Government and people of China for the loss of life and injuries and for the destruction caused by the earthquake that struck Qinghai Province at 07:49 local time on 14 April. The Secretary-General recognizes the efforts being undertaken by the Government of China to assess the situation and to assist those affected by the earthquake.

The United Nations also has made clear that it is ready to provide assistance, if requested by the Government of China.

Besides the United States of America, many countries and organizations around the world sent condolences and pledged assistance if necessary. Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Yushu on April 15 to lead rescue work, and postponed his trip to southeast Asia.

Condolances and prayers to all for those of who lost loved ones and who are in suffered by the earthquake in China.
