Compensation dominates discussion at Main Table negotiations on Day 4

SPEEA and Boeing negotiation teams on counter proposals, the afternoon session produced a pointed exchange regarding SPEEA’s proposal on Article 11 and compensation.

SPEEA negotiators gave a complete presentation on compensation:

Examples to illustrate the need for each proposed change.

Compensation proposals originally outlined to Boeing in September,

SPEEA seeks market-leading wages,

Increase to the Professional overtime rate,

Compensation for employees required to be on-call

A meaningful cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA).

Morning session Proposals to Boeing:

Vacation, sick leave, holidays and bereavement leave.

The proposals involved contract Articles 5, 6 and 7 were unchanged from the documents the company rejected on Thursday.

SPEEA Executive Director and Chief Spokesperson Ray Goforth said: “Our expectation is that these will be taken seriously this time.” Reviewing some of the company data outside of Main Table, SPEEA staff uncovered that Boeing’s original presentation on the issues miscalculated employee use of non-industrial time off.

After hearing the union’s concerns, Boeing agreed to the majority of union proposals on sick leave language in Article 6.

SPEEA's One major Concern: If removing Utah engineers from the Professional bargaining unit.

Main Table - Boeing offer:

To create a pilot program to allow some employees an option to apply for a voluntary layoff during employment surpluses.

The offer had several differences from the original SPEEA proposal, but represented great progress.

SPEEA team is reviewing the Boeing material and developing a counter proposal.

Boeing discussion on Monday: Employee benefits, including medical plans and retirement issues

The SPEEA teams continue to refine proposal.

Union presentation on compensation, including our proposals for general wage increases

A meaningful cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA).

Outsourcing and the use of contractors continues to be discussed:

Reacting to SPEEA concerns on outsourcing and the treatment of workers in other countries,

Boeing said it is refining its offers on Article 9, dealing with contractors, and LOU 10, regarding outsourcing.

Negotiations to secure new contracts for SPEEA Professional and Technical units resumed at 9 a.m., Monday. The bargaining units include 20,300 Boeing employees in Washington, Oregon, Utah and California.

The community leaders, employees' families, and the tax payers want end the strike. The Boeing is the main industry to maintaining the global economic. Your profit share has to grow. Many are already complaining that the IAM strike is hurting their families and communities. How can the Boeing trust and rely on IAM if the IAM continue to strike every time new contract is there regardless the Boeing Company offered the best and the most compatible labor contract.

The Boeing may have to consider this situation very seriously for this case. The Boeing Company should make the urgency call for out-sourcing in order to meet the customers' schedule if the strike is continue.

Although IAM continues not to cooperate with the economic situation and with the circumstances: IAM is continue to wait: see the following Strike Update from IAM, dated October 25, 2008 and October 26, 2008. Although, I am is now tentetively agreed on October 27, 2008.

Strike update - October 25, 2008 Union negotiators continued meeting with the federal mediators and Company negotiators throughout Saturday and into the evening with additional talks scheduled for Sunday. As previously reported, no details of the talks will be available until this round of talks have concluded.

Strike Update - October 26, 2008 Contract talks continued late into the evening Sunday and will resume first thing Monday morning. No details will be released until this latest round of contract talks have concluded.

Update October 27, 2008 - Machinists in Tentative Deal with Boeing

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) announced today that it reached a tentative agreement with the Boeing Company on a contract that will provide job security for its members and limit the amount of work outside vendors can perform in the workplace.

The agreement was hammered out over a five-day period with assistance from federal mediators and participation at the bargaining table by IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger and IAM General Vice President Rich Michalski. Additional resources and technical support was provided by various departments at IAM headquarters.

Job security and the use of vendors were key issues in the strike that began on Sept. 6, 2008. Among the other issues resolved in the latest round of bargaining were wage rates, health care benefits for current and future employees, pension improvements and work rule changes designed to improve productivity.

Full details of the 4-year accord will be withheld until they can be compiled and distributed to IAM members in all Boeing locations.

The tentative agreement has the unanimous endorsement of the IAM negotiating committee and will be presented to members for a ratification vote, which will take place in 3-5 days. A simple majority is required to ratify the tentative agreement.

"After 52 days of striking, we have gained important and substantial improvements over the Company's last, best and final offer that was rejected on September 3rd. Your solidarity brought Boeing back to the table and made this Company address your issues," stated District 751 President Tom Wroblewski. "Each of you stood up and did your part to win this battle, which was a fight against more than just Boeing, but against corporate America. Boeing is profitable because of our members' hard work and by standing together our members ensured they receive a bigger share of those profits."

"This tentative agreement is the result of hard work and great sacrifice by many people," said IAM Aerospace Coordinator Mark Blondin. "But no one deserves more credit than the workers at Boeing, who conducted themselves with dignity and determination throughout this ordeal. On behalf of the entire negotiating committee, I want to say it has been our honor to serve as their representatives.".

One thing we all should understand what is the customers requirements. It is strickly by the customer driven contract. If the customer provide enough money to allocating for the workers by the market driven. We should be able to see the job security within the program as long as the program is sustainining. The procurement must sustaining then, job security would be appropriate by the customers requirement. We should be able to make the
Product everyday. Without the product, there are no job security. When the productivity is grow then, the job will be secure as long as the Boeing products: "quality goods and services" are delivered and continue to making the products. The Job security should be driven by the customers procurement "Sustaining".

We all are expected to see STOP STRIKE and support the ECONOMIC CRISIS and GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS !!!!!!!

THAT MEANS, PLEASE GO BACK TO WORK AND GET PAID FULL PAY BY THE COMPANY: The Boeing Company that you can increase your production: share value and benefits.

Here is one of the good examples that we want to share : see on 787 operations: The circumstance need significant changes needed due to the strike and if it continues....

The companies and other labors needs strong back up to support the customers to meet the customer schedule......

"In response to the Boeing IAM strike, we have modified our operations and reached an agreement with Boeing to minimize impacts on our operating results, working capital and liquidity," said Steve Davis, vice president and general manager, Vought Commercial Aerostructures Division. "In addition, we have put in place our contingency plan in response to the Nashville strike."

Vought Aircraft Industries is responsible for the fabrication of aft fuselage Sections 47 and 48 of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in North Charleston, SC.

Vought Aircraft Industries is responsible for the fabrication of aft fuselage Sections 47 and 48 of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in North Charleston, SC.

In addition, over the next 30 days, Vought will be reviewing a number of additional contingencies including possible temporary shut down of the entire North Charleston facility

"This is a challenging time for all of us who support the Dreamliner program," said Joy Romero, vice president and general manager, 787 Program. "Since the beginning of the Boeing strike, we've been looking at ways to mitigate potential employee job loss in North Charleston, including the initial reduction of outside contract labor. We plan to work with our employees to identify temporary redeployment opportunities at other Vought locations, where possible."

The strike will cost Boeing about $100 million in revenue per day and knock about 1 cent per day off earnings per share, Longer strike will employees' share value will go down and reducing own values and even reducing the other benefits as well due to the production issues, according to Wall Street analysts. The walk-out by the IAM is the fourth at Boeing in 20 years. The union struck for 48 days in 1989, 69 days in 1995 and 28 days in 2005. In 2002, a contract was adopted by default, as it was rejected by workers but fewer than two-thirds approved a strike. As we all know about this, Regardless the economic crisis and minus profit for 2008 Boeing's earning, the Boeing offered the BEST AND FINAL Boeing's "best and final" contract offer this time around was delivered to union members 46 days ago, proposing an 11 percent wage increase over the three-year life of the contract, a one-time lump sum and ratification bonus.

You will be able to see the detailed benefits via the company online calculator suggests that health care accounts for about 12 percent of that total, and pensions 6 percent.

IAM, October 22nd, 2008, stated that "Despite the turmoil and financial conditions of Wall Street, Boeing remains highly profitable with a record $349 billion backlog (up 7%). "

Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) agreed late Monday to return to the bargaining table Oct. 23 under the auspices of federal mediators to resolve a strike that will be in its 47th day by then.

BACK LOG DOES NOT CALCULATES THE PROFIT UNTIL YOU HAVE THE PRODUCTION AND DELIVER THE AIRPLANES.

Many community leaders believe that the IAM is not being fair to the Boeing Company. KC-X tanker contract has been canceled until the next year's budget. The economic is very bad, unemployment rates are growing however, the Boeing Company has offered the most and best labor contract. The jobless people want to have job at Boeing.

We the communities and tax payers want the strike to be ended as soon as possible and support the economic to recover.

THE Boeing stock market down more than 35 per share since April, 2008
Yet, The Boeing BEST AND FINAL OFFER WAS OFFERED 11 PERCENT INCREASED SINCE LAST CONTRACT

The Boeing stock market had big drops and big down more than 30 shares from 78 since. The economic is bad and analysts are not optimistic yet: credit and bank loan crises include global inflation, we all should consider families, communities and country and global market to recover.

Look around the situation what's look like the economy. IAM also understand the situation that the Boeing would had more manufacturing job opening for more than 50 state: “Awarding this contract to Boeing would preserve a key a manufacturing sector and provide real economic stimulus for Boeing workers, vendors and communities in at least 30 U.S. states,” said IAM President Tom Buffenbarger."

This is not the time to asking for impossible stuff to asking. It is time to support the families, communities, country and suppliers and partners, and the Boeing customers who are loyal to the Boeing Company regardless the economic down turn. Be thankful you have a job at Boeing, the best company in the World.
