Remembering Mrs. Yang Ja Chung Choe Martha Choe's mother, Yang Ja Chung Choe, passed away last week. Yang Ja Choe was born on March 10, 1916, in Sunchon, South Korea. She passed away at home on December 28, 2005. Mrs. Choe graduated with a degree in Home Economics from Ewha Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea, where she was an accomplished athlete in her youth in kendo, tennis and basketball. She continued to be involved with the Ewha Women’s University Alumni Association of Washington State. Mrs. Choe taught in South Korea following her college graduation and in Nagoya, Japan. She came to the United States in 1948 when she was awarded a post-graduate scholarship to Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. She moved to New York City and in 1950 married Edward KeSoon Choe, whom she first met in Seoul. The Choe family moved to Seattle from New York City in 1967 and Mrs. Choe was later employed at Virginia Mason Hospital. Mrs. Choe was a warm, loving and devoted mother and wife. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward KeSoon, who passed away on March 10, 2003. She is survived by her children Ed and Martha Choe. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 4 at 3:00 at Plymouth Congregational UCC Church, 6th & University in downtown Seattle. A reception will follow the service.
