The highlight of this event was the World Citizen Essay Contest award
ceremony.
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Lee Tae Sik and Ambassador of
the United States of America, Alexander Vershbow presented awards to the
winners of
the 2006 World citizen Essay Contest as the
following:
2nd to 5th Grade Winners:
First Place Winner: Steven Parks, View Ridge Elementary,

the World Citizen Essay contest and
This Contest sponsored by The Seattle Post Inteligencer.
The World Citizen Essay Contest has started since
year 2002 and the questions included as the following:
Year 2006: "Imagine that you are a diplomat whose mission it is to
represent a country
to the world community. You and your fellow diplomats are working toward
a better world for your citizens and others. Which country would you represent
and
what issue would you want to address? Why is this important and what are
come p;possible solutions?"
Year 2005: "Describe one international
issue you think is important today.
Why do you think this issue is important to both the U.S. and the world?
What would you do about it?
Year 2004: "Tell us the story of one group of people on the move.
Describe what caused them to leave their home and propose a solution that
might return them there".
Year 2003: "If you could have a day with any world leader from the
past or present,
who would it be and what would you discuss?
Year 2002: "If you were a journalist on an international assignment,
where would you like to go, what issue would you cover, and why?

It is positive to see "The World Affair Council set the goal of the
World Citizen Essay contest to promote discussion among students, teachers,
families, and community members about the ways that individuals can effect
positive change in the global community." It is certainly makes harmonize
the global activiies even with the children's activities and communities
and to the world.
