Ambassador, thank you very much. Madam, thank you very much. We've
come to express our country's condolences for those who mourn for
the loved ones.
We stand ready to help in any way that the Chinese government would
like. We know there's great courage being displayed, Mr. Ambassador,
as rescue workers search for those who may still be living.
This
natural disaster is very hard on many of your people and we understand
that. And we extend our deepest sympathies, and pray for recovery
and pray for the strength of those who are -- whose lives have

Earthquake: U.S. Provides First Outside Military Assist 4 A.M.

According
to wikipedia, the 2008 Sichuan earthquake measured at 8.0 Ms however
the China Seismological Bureau shows 7.9 Mw. It is occurred at
14:28:01.42 CST (06:28:01.42 UTC) on 12 May 2008 in Sichuan province
of China: USGS,. It was also known as the Wenchuan earthquake
after the earthquake's epicenter in Wenchuan County in Sichuan
province. The epicenter was 80 kilometres (50 mi) west-northwest
of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, with a depth of 19 kilometres
(12 mi).[2] The earthquake was felt as far away as Beijing (1,500
km away) and Shanghai (1,700 km away), where office buildings
swayed with the tremor.[5] The earthquake was also felt in nearby
countries.
As of May 22nd, stated 51,151 are confirmed dead
including 50,651 in Sichuan province, and 288,431 injured. Tens
of thousands are missing, approximately 14,000 of them buried,
and eight provinces were affected.
The earthquake left about
4.8 million people homeless. It was the deadliest and strongest
earthquake to hit China since the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, which
killed over 240,000 people. In 1556 called Shaanxi earthquake
, 1933 Mao earthquake , 1955 Kangding earthquake , 1973 Luhuo
earthquake , 1976 Tangshan earthquake , 1976 Songpan-Pingwu earthquake,
1996 Lijiang earthquake , 2005 Ruichang earthquake , 2006 Yanjin

A giant C-17 (Boeing) airlift aircraft landed last Sunday at Chengdu,
the capital of Sichuan province The C-17's four engines has the
Pratt & Whitney PW2040 series turbofans (U.S. Air Force designation
F117-PW-100) -- produce 40,440 lb. each of thrust and are equipped
with directed-flow thrust reversers capable of deployment in flight
. Immediately the U.S. Air Force aircrew began unloading tons
of foods, electricity generators, blankets and other goods.
Admiral
Timothy Keating, the U.S. Pacific Command's four-star commander,
said the US troops offered "our sincere condolences" to the Chinese

"We
will continue to provide any assistance we can to minimise their
suffering and loss of life," he said in a statement. Admiral Keating
has had high-level discussions with China's militay and political
elite for more than a year. Although he is the senior military
officer for all of the Pacific region, his post has traditionally
also been viewed as, at least in part, diplomatic. The U.S. Pacific
Command also has extensive training and experience in humanitarian
operations. Pacific Command ships from the U.S. Navy are also
off the coast of Myanmar with relief supplies and helicopters.

UNDP
and WFP (The United Nations Development Programme and the World
Food Programme) also stepped up their support to authorities in
China as they deal with relief efforts in the wake of last Monday's
devastating earthquake in Sichuan province. UNDP has allocated
$100,000 for emergency relief activities, which will be used in
part to help coordinate the relief response and make needs assessments,
the agency announced today in Beijing. It is also providing tents,
quilts, clothing, food, drinking water and medicines to some of
the most affected areas.
In
the meantime, UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon visited cyclone-devastated
areas Arriving in Myanmar in May 22nd, 2008, Secretary-General
Ban Ki-moon has seen first-hand the devastation left by Cyclone
Nargis, which has killed tens of thousands of people and uprooted
the lives of 2.4 million others since it struck the country earlier
this month.
